A few days ago I received my Eberlestock Gunrunner backpack and I'm excited to get it out in the Mountains. While I was shopping around for the Gunrunner I noticed that details about the pack were very limited. The exact size of the scabbard wasn't really mentioned and while contemplating the purchase I was always wondering what exactly could I fit in the scabbard? Well, upon receiving the pack I did a walk around video showing the features of the backpack and also did some scabbard testing to see what could fit.
For those that prefer reading, here's a quick summation of my impressions:
The Gunrunner is a very minimalist pack mimicking the old style of camping rucksack. It mainly consists of one large compartment and a smaller zip up pouch on top secured with a compressions strap. The folks at Eberlestock put a modern and dare I say, tactical?, twist on this traditional design with the addition of a hydration pouch in the main compartment, a small exterior pouch on the front, a horizontal compression strap to back up the vertical and Molle, lots of Molle. The two compressions straps work great for securing soft gear to the pack but just in case I still advise further securing with paracord. The Molle can obviously be used to adapt any type of Molle gear that can fit, allowing users to configure and add any type of pouches they want (this would work great for one of those tactical First Aid Kits we're seeing around these days). Since this is an Eberlestock product, guns were in mind during it's design and an integrated normal sized scabbard is included (check out my youtube video to see what fits :D).
